What you will find inside:

• A how to guide and activity page that helps parents and teachers introduce the concept of phonics.
• Each target letter has it's own double page spread - focusing on the single most common sound for that letter. Each word has been carefully selected to ensure that when read aloud, the reader is easily able to produce the correct sound for that target letter. 
• Search the amazing illustrations for other animals and objects that start with that target letter on each page (with a cheat list at the back!). 

About the Author

• Dr. Lisa Mifsud is a general practitioner and the founder of Cockatoo Publications. She lives and works in Melbourne as both a GP and a medical educator, where she's fortunate to combine her love of caring for people with a passion for teaching. In addition to her clinical and educational roles, she created Cockatoo Publications as a platform to share her love of books and reading with others. Her journey with books hasn’t always been easy—growing up, she struggled with reading and writing. Those early challenges have shaped who she am today and fuelled my determination to create stories that are engaging, accessible, and inspiring for young readers. Through Cockatoo Publications, her goal is to spark curiosity, nurture imagination, and help children discover the joy of learning through books. At the heart of her work is a simple belief: every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading, no matter where they start.

About the Illustrator

• We at Biome are immensley proud of our own Janet Turner who is following her passion of freelance illustrating, with a love for children’s illustration. She lives & works out of Brisbane (Meanjin), Australia. Working digitally, her style is bright & colourful, with soft textures and a crazy amount of cuteness! Janet has a passion for sharing meaningful stories and inspiring a sense of wonder in the world around us. In 2020, she illustrated her first book, ‘Up and Down on a Rainy Day’, as part of State Library of Queensland’s First 5 Forever program. Currently, she works with self-publishing children's book authors, illustrating and designing their books.
